Three-Dimensional Letters And Scenes in the Kitchen

The last issue of 2017 brings you inter-arts poetry, video and sound and two overviews to early Finnish poetry generators.

Our series of essays on Arto Kytöhonka, pioneer in Finnish digital poetry, complements with two essays on Kytöhonka´s poetry generators. Teemu Ikonen´s essay addresses the subject from academic point of view and in a broader international context where as Heikki Saure´s essay provides a concrete overview on the birth and audience reception of the generators. Ikonen´s essay is also published in Tuli&Savu poetry magazine this month.

Active in Finland´s multilingual poetry scene Daniel Malpica has collaborated with the Japanese sound artist Tomomi Adachi in creating a performance based on Malpica´s recent poetry book Written with X. Time to deliver: X³ combines 3D printing, multilingual poetry and sound art. The video now published in Nokturno is a documentation of the performance seen as part of CON_TEXT 2017, series of events organized by Lettrétage Literature House in Berlin.

In this issue Nokturno presents three video poems from Marc Neys, also known as Swoon. Videos Aleppo, Despedida – Farewell and The Grave Dug by Beasts include poetry from Howie Good, Cecília Meireles and Dave Bonta. In his videos Swoon brings together visual material from various sources and combines them with carefully designed music and soundscapes. There´s also sound poetry from Hanna Storm, the two poems originate from a poetry-sound installation Kapeasta laidasta kiertyvä jatkuva kehystäminen, exhibited at gallery Third Space in Helsinki earlier this year.

Last but not least, we have two poems from Sanna Rämö and a video poem from poet and publisher Susinukke Kosola (alias Daniil Kozlov). Rämö´s Alaviite (Footnote) turns around the relatedness of a text and a footnote on a sheet of paper. The poem is published together with an untitled poem exploring the outskirts of language. Susinukke Kosola´s video poem Rojusi ovat lyhytnäköisyyteni patsaita uses dramatic music to create a background to an everyday kitchen scene slowly diving into morphosis.

We´ll be publishing new poetry next time in February 2018. Before that, stay tuned for an open call for the next digital residency taking placing in April-May!

Thank you to our authors, readers and funders for the first whole year of the relaunched Nokturno!

Please continue to send us your poems or anything poetry related that finds it’s home in the digital world! Deadline for next issue is 2nd of February and the email is .
