Open call for mail art!

Poetry magazine Tuli & Savu announces an open call for mail art exhibition. Received works will also be published at Nokturno in a virtual exhibition. Deadline for submissions is at the end of August 16.9.2019.

Mail art, developed in the 1950´s and 1960´s, mixes collage, visual poetry and other combinations of image and text, but it can´t be defined with any single form or technique – only the way it´s send: via mail. Mail art emphasizes equality, it often follows the principle that everything sent will be exhibited or published. All participants will also receive a document of their participation. The works will not be returned to the participants after the exhibition and there is no compensation – but the organizers commit not to sell the works.

Principles of this exhibition are as follows: all works will be published at Nokturno in a virtual exhibition and Tuli & Savu will organize a physical exhibition at the end of 2020. The venue is announced later. Nokturno functions both as a exhibition catalogue and as a documentation platform. Tuli & Savu will also publish all works in the printed magazine as scanned versions – and promises to send the issue to all the participants. The editors of the magazine will curate a selection of the works only in case the amount of works surpasses the magazine´s print resources, or in case of technical problems in displaying the work in print.

Form and technique are free, as long as the work is submitted via mail as a letter or a card – and it doesn´t contain any illegal material. Theme of the open call is 2020 and we encourage a wide range of approaches. In the exhibition and when publishing the works we feature the name of the artist and the location on the postage stamp, but it´s also possible to take part anonymously.

You can also add your postal and email information to your submission, and you´ll receive the magazine in print and information about the upcoming exhibition. Send your work by 16th of September to the address
