{"id":4335,"date":"2019-10-30T12:50:45","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T10:50:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/u58954.www1.webdomain.fi\/hallinta\/sounds-memories-and-unknown-search-terms\/"},"modified":"2020-06-14T16:18:46","modified_gmt":"2020-06-14T13:18:46","slug":"sounds-memories-and-unknown-search-terms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/en\/sounds-memories-and-unknown-search-terms\/","title":{"rendered":"Sounds, memories and unknown search terms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The fifth issue of this year contains various encounters between poetry and sound art, probing of everyday technological vocabulary and videopoetry in the landscapes of remembrance. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This issue opens with <a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/poem\/nelja-koetusta-pysya-four-try-outs-in-staying\"><em>Nelj\u00e4 koetusta pysy\u00e4 | Four Try-outs in Staying<\/em><\/a>, a work combining <strong>Milka Luhtaniemi<\/strong>\u00b4s poetry and sound art by <strong>W<\/strong>. There are four audio players embedded in the poem, you can read and listen the work as you like.<\/p>\n<p><strong>J.P. Sipil\u00e4<\/strong>, one of the pioneers in Finnish video poetry has released a new work and we\u00b4re glad to present it in this issue. <a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/poem\/nykyhetki-ja-minulla-on-mahdollisuus\"><em>Nykyheti ja minulla on mahdollisuus<\/em><\/a> had its first screening in the exhibition for experimental poetry Paino in Kuopio, Finland in August. Sipil\u00e4\u00b4s hypnotic work addresses questions of remembering and alternative ways to relate to something almost gone, not with nostalgia but as something still worth fighting for. The work, with sounds by <strong>Bereen Ondo<\/strong> is part of a larger series to be released in 2020s.<\/p>\n<p>Nature and remembrance are present also in the video poem by <strong>Tuula Sipil\u00e4<\/strong> and <strong>Harri Sundell<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/poem\/ennen-kuin-han-menettaa-muistonsa\"><em>Ennen kuin h\u00e4n menett\u00e4\u00e4 muistonsa<\/em><\/a> guides the reader along the sea shores and woodland paths, in the landscapes between remembering and forgetting. <strong>A. D. Harper<\/strong> takes us to a dive in the linguistic world of data analytics and search engines. <a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/poem\/unknown-search-terms\"><em>Unknown search terms<\/em><\/a> performs a poetic exhibition of the phrase. Harper\u00b4s poem was first released in <a href=\"http:\/\/strangehorizons.com\/\">Strange Horizons<\/a>, a magazine for speculative fiction.<\/p>\n<p>Our sound poetry smorgasbord in this issue also brings you the latest works of <strong>Taneli Viljanen<\/strong>, author and sound poet whose works<a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/poem\/jaljet-aurinko-jaljet-miten-asioiden-kuvaileminen-muuttaa-niita-niiden-jattamia-muistikuvia\"> <em>j\u00e4ljet, aurinko<\/em> and <em>j\u00e4ljet: miten asioiden kuvaileminen muuttaa niit\u00e4, niiden j\u00e4tt\u00e4mi\u00e4 muistikuvia, sinun suuhusi unohtuneita huoneita<\/em><\/a> are first two parts in the growing series called <em>J\u00e4ljet<\/em>. The first work had its first presentation at the Helsingin Festival and the latter one in the aforementioned experimental poetry exhibition in August, curated by <strong>Lauri Hei<\/strong>. Viljanen\u00b4s work has previously been published in Nokturno as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/en\/news\/guest-curator-issue-waves-languages-and-text-stripes\">guest curator issue of 2018<\/a>, compiled by Nokturno\u00b4s previous editor <strong>Marko Niemi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years Nokturno has every once in a while released recordings of poetry performances. Now there\u00b4s <a href=\"https:\/\/nokturno.fi\/poem\/nelja-aanirunoa\">one available from the sound poetry concert of Pentagonic Order<\/a>, a group formed by poets <strong>Mikko Mankinen<\/strong>, <strong>Saara Mets\u00e4ranta<\/strong> and <strong>Juha Rautio<\/strong> with <strong>Lauri Hyv\u00e4rinen. <\/strong>The performance was recorded at Arteground Viljandi in Estonia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our next issue will be guest curated by <strong>Matti Kangaskoski<\/strong>, a poet and PhD in Literature Studies, who has studied digital literature and digital textual environments. The issue is coming out in December.<\/p>\n<p>Ps.
